Portable Pies

Portable pies; only because I dont have a better name for them. I wanted to make a pie easy to handle. Pies you don't have to slice up and use plates and forks to eat. Pies you can stand around the kitchen and eat, like we did last night. Just wait until they cool, first. I used a simple apple pie recipe. Pie dough, granny smith apples mixed with brown sugar and allspice. I took a small amount of dough, rolled it out into a small circle and placed the apple mixture in the middle. Then I folded it in half and pressed the edges together with a fork and brushed them with some beaten egg. I placed them all into a baking dish and put them in the over at 380 degrees (or 385 degrees for Aron) and cooked them for about 20 -25 minutes. When they came out I glazed them with some brown sugar mixed with a little water to sweeten the top. The product of this experimental recipe was perfect. Portable pies. Easy to eat. No forks, no plates, no pie dishes.

Melt in your mouth yeast rolls

I came across this recipe while trying to replicate Logan's Roadhouse Buttery Yeast Rolls. I modified it some and these turned out to be so light, fluffy and buttery they almost melt in your mouth. I drizzled some honey over the top and they were so good, they could have been dessert.

Husband Approved Apple Pie.

This apple pie was DELICIOUS! My husband is not a big cake guy, but he loves Apple Pie. He said I nailed it with this one. He loved it.

Bad picture, good cake

I really need to get my camera fixed. This is the best picture I got of this cake for a friend's 28th birthday.

Ok, here's a better picture!

Tools of the trade that I can't live without

The wilton cake lifter: It keeps your cakes off the floor. I use this every time I make a cake.

This is the mesh tip bag for cleaning your piping/decorating tips. I've lost many tips down the garbage disposal and into the unknown in the dishwasher. You can also throw couplers, rings, and fondant cutters in these bags.

Kaylee's Birthday Cake

I made this cake the same day as Sarah's baby shower cake with my left over truffle cake frosting.

Sarah's Baby Shower

The picture of this cake was taken with a camera phone, so it doesn't do it justice. My camera is broken.

Lilly's 6th Birthday Cake

As always, it had to be horses. She wanted a barn theme again, but I asked her to consider something a little different and I did a carousel. The cake was vanilla and the filling was Cherry Almond Mousse. The carousel even turned on it's base.

Happy Birthday Logan!

I made this for my nephew's 5th birthday.

The cake is not chocolate, it is actually a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting tinted brown. We made the wood grain with food coloring. In the hot July afternoon this cake began to melt and droop. The birthday boy never noticed and he thought it was the coolest cake ever.

Fourth of July Cake

This cake didn't even get finished before it was eaten. It was loved by all, though.

Cris' 16th Birthday Cake

Hello Kitty has invaded my house. I incorporated the help of the birthday girl for this cake. She molded Hello Kitty out of fondant. I used a fondant ribbon cutter to make the bottom layers and used all her favorite neon colors for this cake. It was a hit.

Go Zebras (8th Grade Graduation Cake)

This was actually my first paying gig. I did the zebra cake for a friend of my cousin. Her son was graduation 8th grade and the school he would be attending had a zebra for a mascot.

I also did a small personal anniversary cake for her and her husband's anniversary that fell on the same day as the graduation party. This was also the first time I tried out my special chocolate truffle cake.

Cheer Cake

My neice is a cheerleader and she wanted a "cheer" cake. The cheerleader pan was a little too cutesy for a 10 year old's birthday so I used a large sheet cake pan and cut it to size. I molded her name with the candy molds.

Easter 2009

This cake is done with the basket weave technique and the candy molded daisies. Of course, it's carrot cake with cream cheese filling and cream cheese icing.

Hannah Montana Guitar Cake

This cake was originally purple. However, when it got into the sun it turned blue and it melted. I did the neck, bridge and sound hole of the guitar in molded chocolate and the strings were rolled fondant. I used the Wilton Guitar Pan to shape the cake as well as mold the neck, bridge and sound hole.

Butterfly Cake

This cake was for my friend's daughter's 6th birthday. She wanted a butterfly cake, but I wanted to make sure there was plenty of cake for the whole party. I made this cake a french vanilla cake with real strawberries for the filling. I made the cupcakes to look like daisies in the grass and surrounded the butterfly with them, so it looked like it was surrounded by flowers. The daisies are made with candy molds.

A cake for my princess

She's usually into monkeys, but this year she wanted a princess cake. I used the wilton doll pan and created this cake with fondant and royal icing flowers. The flowers she's holding came from my garden from my pea vine. The bottom teir is buttercream with fondant flowers. The cake flavor was orange, lemon and strawberry with cream filling. When cut into it was pink, orange and yellow.

I made this cake for my own 28th Birthday. I am very proud of how well it turned out. The dots needed work, they all had tails, but my rosettes and leaves worked out really well.
